GLASSBORO, NJ –
Kate Herlihy scored 15 points and
Charlotte Carlies posted a career-high 12 points and six blocked shots to lead Rowan to a 64-37 win in NJAC women's basketball action. The Profs closed out the week with back-to-back wins as they evened their record to 8-8 on the season and improved to 5-4 in the league.
Reagan Russo also recorded a new career-high with 10 points, with 5-for-6 shooting from the field, and had five steals in the game as the Profs forced 29 turnovers by Rutgers-Newark (2-14; 1-8).
The Profs opened things up in the second quarter, outscoring the Scarlet Raiders, 19-4. Herlihy had six points in the period, and the Profs scored the last nine straight as Rowan took a 32-18 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.
Rowan scored four more at the start of the second half, but Rutgers-Newark ended the Profs' 13-0 run by scoring six in a row to come within, 36-24. In the final two minutes of the quarter, Rowan built its lead back up to 46-30 after baskets from Herlihy and
Reagan Russo.
The Profs kept rolling in the fourth quarter and eight straight points, with six from Carlies, they owned a 58-33 lead with over four minutes remaining. Rowan's biggest margin during the game was the final score.
The game was tight in the first quarter with Rutgers-Newark scoring five straight in the final minute to take a 14-11 lead, before
Kristina Johnson's layup pulled Rowan within 14-13 at the end of the period.
Rowan heads back on the road to face Stockton on Wednesday, January 17
th.
