Volleyball Takes Down Montclair State, 3-0, to Notch First NJAC Win

Game Highlights

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Behind late rally in the third set, Rowan went on to defeat Montclair State, 3-0 (25-16, 25-23, 26-24), Tuesday evening in a New Jersey Athletic Conference clash here at Esbjornson Gymnasium.

The Profs trailed 19-14 in that third set and later were faced with a 24-22 deficit as the Red Hawks looked to extend the match to a fourth. Ciara Bradley had a key kill and a block and Kyra Hissner had two kills, including the match clincher to give Rowan its first NJAC win on the season (4-11, 1-2 NJAC).

As a team, Rowan had its best night hitting in a three-set match, putting up 46 kills (.191 hitting percentage). 17 of those kills came from Jena Kaul who had a game high and contributed 12 digs for her sixth double double this season. Isabel Kirchner reached double figures with 11. Hissner finished with six while Bradley added seven. Additionally, Brooke Adams assisted on 41 of those 46 kills with Vanessa Hutchinson kicking in 20 digs.

The first set had the home team break off from a 16-16 score, racking up nine points in a row capped by a block from Bradley and Hissner to go up 1-0.

Kaul had seven of the team's 19 kills in the second set. Tied at 12-12, Kaul had a pair of kills as part of a 4-0 spurt that would put the Profs ahead until the Red Hawks climbed back to knot it back up at 23-23. Kaul put the wraps on the second set with back-to-back kills for a 2-0 edge.

Now in the third set, Lily Thomas' kill gave Montclair State a 19-14 lead before the visitors reached set point (24-24), setting the stage for the Prof comeback to help lock up the win.

Thomas was one of three players with six kills (Zoey Horn, Rachel Curran) for the Red Hawks (8-9, 0-3 NJAC). Horn registered a match-high six blocks.

Rowan welcomes Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, October 3rd for a NJAC contest against the Scarlet Raiders. First serve is at 7 p.m. here in Glassboro.
