GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan evened its conference record to 2-2 with a three-set sweep of visiting Rutgers-Newark (25-12, 25-15, 25-13) Tuesday night at Esbjornson Gymnasium.
The Profs served up a season-high 17 aces on the evening, led by
Jena Kaul (career high) and
Brooke Adams with five. Libero
Vanessa Hutchinson added four as the squad put down a .329Â hitting line (38-12-79) as well. Kaul paced the offense with a match-high 16 kills, with
Kyra Hissner adding six and
Alexa Blue with five.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first set, the Profs ran off 11 of the next 15 points to hold the lead. Five-straight points to end the frame put the home team up 1-0. Rowan totaled 14 kills in the second set, as an early 12-3 run opened up a 14-5 advantage after an ace from Nia Ipecker. Back-to-back kills from Kaul ended the second set and made it a 2-0 match.
The Scarlet Raiders put together a four-point swing to take an 8-7 lead in the third. Now tied at 10-10, the Profs looked to close it out, outscoring Rutgers-Newark, 10-2, and wrapped up the match with five points in a row topped off with an ace from Hutchinson.
Kaiel Maynor led Rutgers-Newark with nine kills and added six digs, two aces, and a block.
Rowan is back at it next Tuesday, October 10th as the team visits William Paterson in a NJAC matchup at 7 p.m.
