William Paterson Hands Volleyball a 3-1 Setback

HALEDON, NJ -- Despite double doubles from Brooke Adams and Jena Kaul, Rowan was handed a 3-1 NJAC defeat (21-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-17) at William Paterson Tuesday evening.

Adams totaled 31 assists and 11 digs with Kaul notching 14 kills and 12 digs but the Profs and Pioneers battled through a total of 31 ties and 15 lead changes.

Rowan took the first set, holding off a late William Paterson push. Tied at 16-16, the Profs got kills from Kaul and Kyra Hissner and an ace from Nia Ipecker to open up a three-point lead. Isabel Kirchner's kill put the wraps on set number one and a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers came out with six-straight points to open the second set, before the Profs made a run to eventually knot things up 12-12. Trailing 24-22, Rowan kept it going with two points in a row, but after two attack errors, the home team was able to even the match at one game apiece.

The third set appeared to be in favor of Rowan, as the visitors held a 24-21 lead. William Paterson ran off five points in a row to head to a fourth set leading, 2-1. The Profs would lead 8-6 in the fourth set, but the Pioneers embarked on a 17-5 run to open up a double-digit lead. Rowan put together four-straight points to pull within 23-17, but could not pull any closer as the Pioneers closed out the match with a 25-17 score in the fourth.

Cecilia Miller was one of three Pioneers in double-figure kills with a match-high 16. Natalie Zabloudil added 15 and Kristian Glenn 10 respectively for William Paterson.

Next up for the Profs a trip to the Big Apple to compete in the NYU Invitational on Saturday featuring matchups with two top 10 teams in the University of Northwestern and the host Violets.
