Volleyball Falls in Two Matches in Saturday Action at NYU

NEW YORK, NY -- Rowan faced off with two nationally-ranked programs at the NYU October Showdown as the Profs fell to the 10th-ranked Violets of NYU and #4 Northwestern-St. Paul both by 3-0 scores.

Against the host Violets of NYU, Jena Kaul led Rowan with 13 kills and had 12 digs along with Vanessa Hutchinson. For Kaul, it was her eighth double double of the season. Setter Brooke Adams doled out 21 assists and had six aces, which was one shy of tying a career best.

NYU's Haley Holtz also finished with 13 kills as the team hit .295 (44-13-105) for the match. Ava Launsbach added 23 assists and 11 digs.

Down 1-0 in the second set, the Profs got out to a 4-1 lead thanks to two aces from Adams. After NYU flipped it back to take a 13-9 edge, Rowan battled to get it to a 22-21 score. The Violets netted three-straight to close out a 25-21 score and a 2-0 lead.

In the third, Rowan fell behind early but back-to-back kills from Kaul knotted things up at 9-9. The Profs trailed only by as much as four points, but could not jump ahead as NYU wrapped it up with a 25-21 score.

The day's second match saw Rowan run into a buzzsaw as the Eagles posted a 38-10-80 (.350) hitting line as Northwestern featured three players with eight or more kills led by Marley Aune with a match-high 11.

The Profs put together 24 total kills with Ciara Bradley having six, and Kaul and Krya Hissner each with five.

Next up for Rowan is a matchup at Dickinson on Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m.
