Troiano, Ferreira Pace Men's Soccer to 6-0 Win over NJCU

Game Highlights

GLASSBORO, NJ – Johnny Troiano scored two goals and Gil Ferreira recorded a goal and two assists to lead Rowan to a 6-0 shutout of New Jersey City in NJAC men's soccer action. It was the conference opener for the Profs, as they opened defense of their NJAC title and improved to 3-1-4 (1-0 NJAC) on the year.

Turlough Gartlan set up the first goal as he carried the ball into the box and sent a pass back to Troiano, who scored from 10 yards out at 17:56. Luke Yates upped the lead to 2-0 when the Profs were awarded a penalty kick. The senior put it into the bottom left of the net to beat NJCU (4-3; 0-2) keeper Nick Linebaugh at 34:56 for his first goal of the season.

Troiano opened the second half with his second of the game, and team-best eighth goal, which was set up by Ferreira.

Ferreira then got into the scoring column when he headed in the corner kick from Davide Caputo at 65:23 for his third tally of the season. Ferreira then returned the favor, sending a pass to Caputo, who netted one just three minutes later.

Ryan Barnes closed out the scoring for the Profs in the final 10 minutes with a goal, which was assisted by Tyler Guadagno.

Rowan dominated in their offensive end, outshooting the Gothic Knights, 25-6. Dylan Aportela made one save and shared the shutout with Charlie Scanlon, who also made one stop.

Rowan, which received votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches rankings, will host Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, September 30, with a 1 p.m. start
