SALISBURY, MD – Junior
Gil Ferreira scored two first-half goals to help the Rowan men's soccer team to its first win of the season, a 5-1 decision over St. Mary's (MD) in the Elmer Lord Classic hosted by Salisbury.
The Profs also got goals from newcomer
Sergio Sola Garcia,
Ryan Gale and
Juni Smith in picking up the win.
Rowan (1-0-1) staked a 3-0 lead in the first half as Sola Garcia scored at 26:54, assisted by Aiden McGuigan. Ferreria then scored two consecutive, first at 36:33, assisted by
Tyler Guadagno, and then his second just two minutes later, with the assist from
Quinn Murphy.
Gale built upon the lead late midway through the second half when he took a pass from
Mason Martelloni to put the Profs up 4-0.
St. Mary's got just one goal past
Dylan Aportela, at 73:46, and Smith finished the scoring with the first of his career at 89:22, as Guadagno picked up his second assist of the game.
Rowan held a decisive 22-5 margin in shots, while Aportela made one save in the contest.
The Profs open the home season on Wednesday when they host Johns Hopkins at 7 p.m.
