CHESTERTOWN, MD – Washington College converted a penalty kick in the first half to hand the #21 Rowan men's soccer team its first loss of the season, 1-0. The Profs are now 2-1-4 on the year.
Rowan had one final chance in the closing seconds but
Greg Ferreira's shot was wide, and the Shoremen held on for the win.
Washington (2-0-5) was awarded a penalty kick in the 36
th minute after a Rowan yellow card and Ben Strine converted the kick to provide the eventual gamewinner.
Washington outshot the Profs, 15-11, but Rowan goalkeeper
Dylan Aportela had four saves, as did his WC counterpart Anthony Pinto.
The Profs will open defense of their NJAC crown from last season when they begin conference play on Saturday at Kean, in a 4 p.m. match.
