Volleyball Splits in Home Tri-Match with Eastern and Goucher

Game Highlights

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan split a home tri-match on Saturday falling to Eastern in a close 3-2 decision and posting a 3-0 victory over Goucher.

Against Eastern, the Profs battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth and final set, but the Eagles used a rally of its own.

Rowan had four players with nine or more kills led by Jena Kaul with a team-high 17. Ciara Bradley added 10 with Isabel Kirchner and Kyra Hissner each with nine. The Profs totaled just 19 kills through the first two sets, but the squad rebounded with 14 in the third.

A late 7-2 run in the fourth helped turn over a final set. Now tied 4-4 in the fifth, the Profs ran off eight of the next 10 points to grab a 12-6 edge. Eastern put together five points in a row and would later knot it up at 13-13. Now tied at 16-16, the Eagles used back-to-back kills to help cement the outcome.

Kaul added 16 digs for a double-double while sophomore libero Vanessa Hutchinson racked up a match-high 27.

In the second match of the day, the Profs hit .290 (42-15-93). Kaul (12) and Kirchner (11) reached double digit kills with Sydni Greenwood chipping in eight and Alexa Blue kicking in five.

Setter Brooke Adams was two digs shy of a double-double herself (37 assists/8 digs) while Kirchner (four blocks) and Blue (three blocks) shored up the middle.

The first set saw Rowan run out to a 5-0 advantage but fell behind 14-11. The Profs responded with a big 14-3 spurt to go up 1-0. The team had just one attack error in the second, hitting .500 (15-1-28) for a two-set lead. It was more of the same in the third as the home team raced out to a 10-0 lead and did not look back in securing the win.

The Profs open NJAC play on Tuesday when they welcome Rutgers-Camden here in Glassboro in a 7 p.m. start.
