GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan battled back to force a fifth and final set, but it was Rutgers-Camden taking the 3-2 decision (26-24, 25-16, 21-25, 16-25, 15-8) here at Esbjornson Gymnasium Tuesday night in the NJAC opener for both teams.
The Profs (2-8, 0-1 NJAC) fell behind 2-0 but won the third set through nine ties and six lead changes including a big 7-2 run that would put the home team ahead for good.
Jena Kaul put down seven of her match-high 19 kills in that frame. The team would add 13 kills in the fourth set, where Rowan ran out to a 10-4 lead and later a 20-9 advantage.
Kaul (19 kills/13 digs) was one of two Profs with a double double, as
Brooke Adams added 41 assists and 14 digs.
Maya Iovacchini had a career evening, as she had personal bests in kills (6) and aces (5) and tied a career-high with two blocks.
Kyra Hissner also went for a career-best 10 kills. The dig leader was
Vanessa Hutchinson with 22, marking the fourth time this season she has recorded 20 or more digs in a match.
For the Scarlet Raptors, Dyamond Free was one of three players in double-digit kills with 13. Erica Nebrich and Isabella Choice each kicked in 10 with Nebrich added a team-high 19 digs.
In the decisive fifth set, Rutgers-Camden (5-5, 1-0 NJAC) held a 10-8 lead and would use kills from Free and Kaitlyn Parrish over the next five points in a row to secure the Scarlet Raptors first win in Glassboro in 13 all-time matches.
Rowan will head to Messiah for a quad match beginning on Friday. Up first is a matchup against Gettysburg on Friday followed by contests with SUNY-Brockport and the host Falcons on Saturday.
