GLASSBORO – Sophomore
Johnny Troiano scored his first career hat trick to propel the #17 Rowan men's soccer team to a dominating 10-0 win over the City College of New York in action this evening, while a total of eight players scored at least one goal for the Profs. The win snaps a string of three consecutive ties for Rowan, as it improves to 2-0-4.
Troiano opened the scoring after taking a pass from
Davide Caputo at 10:41, then
Mason Martelloni tallied his first of the season as he put in a shot from 28 yards out at 21:25. Troiano added his second just one minute later with an unassisted tally to give Rowan a 3-0 lead by halftime.
It was more of the same in the second half, as the Profs took 52 shots, while not allowing any by CCNY. Troiano, who leads the Profs this season with six goals, completed the hat trick just 33 seconds into the second half on a high shot, that was assisted by
Gil Ferreira.
Carill Asanji tallied his first goal as a Prof with the assist from Caputo at 58:11, while
Greg Ferreira followed with his first career goal, assisted by
Ryan Barnes, as the Profs took a 6-0 lead.
Ryan Gale added one just a minute later for his first tally of the season.
The Profs added a flurry of goals in the final four minutes, with a goal by
Juni Smith, followed by one from
Ryan Barnes, with the assist from
Tyler Guadagno.
Rowan's three goalkeepers –
Dylan Aportela,
Charlie Scanlon and
Austin Bramblett – all saw time and combined for the shutout.
The Profs return to action on the road on Tuesday at Washington College.
