GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan freshman
Trish Gillen scored a season-high four goals but the Profs were edged by Stevens, 12-11, in women's lacrosse action this afternoon. Gillen added an assist for the first five-point game of her career while classmate
Elaina Corson added two goals for Rowan (2-1).
With Rowan leading 8-7 at the start of the second half, Stevens (3-0) scored four consecutive goals to take an 11-8 lead with 12:47 left in the fourth quarter.
After the Profs went without a goal in the third quarter, Corson broke the drought with one at 9:03 to cut the deficit to 11-9, and
Erin Renshaw followed with an unassisted goal at 5:42 to pull the Profs within one, 11-10. But Stevens' Emily Smart gave the Ducks a 12-10 lead with 3:26 remaining, and Gillen scored her final goal of the game with 48 seconds to play but the Profs ran out of time.
It was a tie game, 3-3, after one quarter as Rowan got a pair of goals from Gillen, both assisted by
Molly Green, and one from Corson.
The teams combined to score nine goals in the second quarter, with the Profs netting five to take an 8-7 lead, that they held at halftime. Gillen started the scoring, followed by
Michaela Donnelly, Green,
Julianna Corson, and
Hannah Lombardo.
Reilly Shaup made seven saves for Rowan with Stevens' Lauren Cunniff stopping 10 Profs' shots.
Rowan visits Washington (MD) on Wednesday before heading to Florida for games against Clarkson (March 15) and Western New England (March 17).
