Women's Basketball Has Rally at Ramapo Fall Short in 78-72 Loss

MAHWAH, NJ -- A second-half rally fell short as Rowan was handed a 78-72 setback at Ramapo in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon, snapping the Profs' four-game winning streak.

Four players registered double figures led by Savannah Holt with 18 points but the Profs could not overcome a 38-23 deficit at halftime. Holt was 4-for-7 from the floor with four rebounds and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Nicole Mallard, Eliana Santana, and Kate Herlihy all had 11 points respectively.

Jada Thompson led all scorers with 21 points and kicked in 11 boards for the Roadrunners.

After Ramapo used a 13-2 run to end the first quarter, the home would increase that lead to as much as 19 (33-14) midway in the second.

Rowan responded in the third quarter, as a big 11-0 run capped with two free throws from Holt pulled the Profs to 47-42 late in the stanza. Johnson's three-point play gave the Roadrunners some room before the two teams headed to the fourth.

A three from Kristina Johnson early in the fourth looked to get the momentum going for Rowan, getting within 53-49. Johnson helped Ramapo take control for good as she netted 12 of her 21 points in the frame to start an 11-2 run giving the home team a double-digit lead with under four minutes remaining.

Rowan gave it one last push as a pair of three's from Holt and Jess McLaughlin in the final minute got the Profs to within five, but the team could not pull any closer the rest of the way.

The squad will travel to New Jersey City on Wednesday, December 13th for a rematch of last season's conference championship showdown. It will also be the final game of the semester for the Profs as well.
