Herlihy Scores 14 as Women's Basketball Rolls to 93-64 Win over Gwynedd Mercy

Santana and Araujo add 13 points as five Profs hit double figures

GLASSBORO, NJ – Kate Herlihy scored 14 points to lead five players in double figures as Rowan  (3-3) rolled to a 93-64 win over Gwynedd Mercy in non-league action at Esby Gym, for the Profs' highest scoring output of the year so far. Eliana Santana and Sabrina Araujo each chipped in with 13 points.
 
Herlihy handed out four assists and grabbed five steals. Santana shot 6-for-7 from the field while Araujo connected on 4-of-6 three-pointers. Victoria Crooker was 5-for-6 from the field for 12 points and Nicole Mallard added 10 points for Rowan, which converted 49 percent of its field goal attempts.
 
Rowan built up a 21-13 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, building up a 38-27 lead by halftime.
 
The Profs opened the third quarter with a 14-3 run, making six straight field goals, including three-pointers from Jess McLaughlin and Kate Herlihy, to own a 52-30 lead at 6:31. Rowan closed out the quarter with a pair of threes from Araujo, both assisted by Reagan Russo, which gave the home team a commanding 68-45 advantage.
 
Rowan started the fourth quarter the way it ended the previous one as Herlihy connected on a three-pointer, and after Gwynedd Mercy (4-3) answered with a long-range shot, Santana converted a three-point play to put the Profs up, 74-48. Rowan kept rolling and took its biggest lead of the game in the final two minutes, 93-59, on a jumper from Shayla Johnson.
 
The teams had almost identical numbers from behind the arc with Gwynedd Mercy hitting 12-of-26 and the Profs shooting 11-of-26, but Rowan outscored the Griffins, 34-1, in points off turnovers.
 
The Profs will next host TCNJ in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday, November 29th, with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
