Men's Soccer Downed by #3 Montclair State, 4-1

GLASSBORO, NJ – Third-ranked Montclair State scored three goals in the second half to upend Rowan, 4-1, in NJAC men's soccer action this evening in a rematch of last year's conference championship. Rowan drops to 4-3-4 and 2-2 in league play.
 
The teams battled through an almost scoreless first half until Montclair State's Owen Murphy. took a free kick in front of the Rowan sideline and sent it into the box. Ian Chesney was able to head it into the goal at 44:13 to put the Red Hawks on the board.
 
MSU (10-1-1; 4-0) added another one shortly into the second half as Amer Lukovic scored an unassisted goal
 
Rowan's Johnny Troiano cut the Profs deficit in half with his team-high 10th goal of the year. Luke Yates started the play with a throw-in into the box, which was headed by a Montclair State player but picked up by Troiano who blasted it into the net from 12 yards out at 55:22.
 
Montclair State started to put the game away with Murphy scoring at 67:44 off a pass from Lukovic. Then Anthony Viola carried the ball into the box, beat a defender and scored the final goal at 71:23.
 
Rowan held a 10-7 advantage in shots and Montclair State's Shane Keenan made six saves to pick up the win, while Dylan Aportela had one stop for the Profs.
 
The Profs will look to snap their two-game losing streak when they head to Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday night.
