ANNVILLE, PA -- Rowan split a tri-match at Lebanon Valley as the Profs fell 3-0 to Elizabethtown but rebounded with a 3-1 win over the host Dutchwomen on Saturday.
In the day's first match against the Blue Jays, Rowan had two players finish with nine kills apiece;
Isabel Kirchner and
Maya Iovacchini.
Jena Kaul added eight enders but Rowan hit just .023 (33-30-112) for the match.
After the Blue Jays took the first two sets, the Profs looked to turn things around in the third. Iovacchini and Kaul each totaled six kills as the team racked up 19 in the frame. Rowan erased an 18-12 deficit to get it to 21-21. Later the team fought off match point at 24-22, tying things up again at 25-25. Elizabethtown would notch the next two points to close it out.
The trio kept the hot streak going against Lebanon Valley as the three combined for 35 of the team's 47 kills. Kaul led the way with 14 kills, while Iovacchini pouring in 11, and Kirchner kicked in 10. Kaul would add 15 digs for a double double. It was a career day for Iovacchini as her 11 kills, eight aces, and five total blocks (four solo) were all career highs.
The Profs tore through the first two set to lead 2-0 before Lebanon Valley put together 16 kills in the third set to make it 2-1. Tied at 4-4 in the fourth, Rowan ran off six points in a row and 14 of the next 15 points to take a sizable advantage the rest of the way.
Rowan resumes action on Tuesday with a NJAC matchup at New Jersey City. With a win, the Profs can clinch a playoff berth.
