GLASSBORO, NJ -- Visiting Ramapo spoiled senior night for Rowan as the Profs fell, 3-0, (25-22, 25-15, 25-17) here at Esbjornson Gymnasium Thursday evening.
Prior to the match, the team and coaching staff honored its two seniors,
Alexa Blue and
Sydni Greenwood along with the families of each player.
On the night, Blue totaled two kills and two blocks with an assist while Greenwood added a kills and two blocks (one solo).
Jena Kaul registered 10 kills,
Vanessa Hutchinson had 10 digs, and
Brooke Adams dished out 18 assists and had six aces, which were all team highs.
For the Roadrunners, Penelope Rivera recordred 11 kills with teammates Maliyah LaBrie and Desiree Cruz chipping in nine and eight respectively as Ramapo hit .293 on the night (43-14-99).
In the first set, Ramapo got out to an 8-3 lead before the home team scored five of the next six points after a timeout. Rowan again used a scoring spurt of six points to turn a two-point deficit into a 17-15 edge. The Roardunners had a stretch of its own, turning a 21-19 Prof lead into set point (24-21). Rivera's kill gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The momentum swings continued in the second set at the Profs opened frame with a 10-5 run only to see Ramapo run off a 12-2 jaunt to reclaim the lead. Seven points in a row helped the Roadrunners get within set point, where Ramapo closed out the second to go up 2-0.
Kaul looked to spark Rowan in the third, as the sophomore put down six of her 10 kills in the set. But Ramapo jumped ahead early and kept the Profs out of reach the rest of the way.
Rowan will head to Elizabethtown on Saturday for a tri-match with the host Blue Jays and Lebanon Valley.
