GLASSBORO, NJ –
Johnny Troiano had a goal and an assist, as Rowan scored four straight goals and held on for a 4-3 win over TCNJ in NJAC men's soccer action this evening. Rowan improves to 6-3-5 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference, with just two games remaining in the regular season.
The Profs staked a 4-0 lead through the first 60 minutes, but TCNJ (3-11-2; 1-5-1)was able to score three late in the game. The Lions took advantage of two penalty kicks and numerous substitutions by Rowan.
Sergio Sola-Garcia netted the Profs' opening goal just 12 minutes in as he took a pass from Troiano. It was the senior's third goal of the season.
Troiano added one of his own, his 11th goal of the year, as
Ryan Gale sped down the field and sent a nice feed into the box that Troiano put into the left side of the net.
Rowan added two goals in a span of a minute in the second half to secure the win.
Emiliano Pavia scored his first goal as a Prof with an unassisted tally at 57:28. Rowan followed with another at 58:44 when
Mason Martelloni slipped a through ball to
Davide Caputo at the near post and he touched it over to Gartlan, who headed it in from close range. It was Gartlan's third goal of the year and became the eventual gamewinner.
TCNJ ended
Dylan Aportela's shutout bid hen the Lions were awarded a penalty kick at 83:00 and Massimo Rodio put it in on the left side. Just two minutes later, TCNJ earned another on a foul in the box and Chris Meder converted it on the right side.
The Lions weren't finished as Meder sent a pass to Hayden Wiltsey who chipped it in at 86:10 to provide the final margin.
Aportela made two saves on the evening as Rowan outshot the visitors, 18-9. Julian Franco was called on to make a number of saves for TCNJ as he posted eight.
The Profs head on the road on Saturday to take on William Paterson before closing out the regular season at home on Wednesday vs. Stockton in a key NJAC matchup.
