MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Rowan was handed a 73-67 setback at Montclair State Wednesday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest.
The Profs looked to erase a 19-point halftime deficit in the third quarter. Holding the home Red Hawks to just 1-of-14 shooting and 10 points in the stanza, the Profs got it to 60-52 heading into the fourth.
Savanna Holt netted 12 points and tied a career high with eight rebounds for the Profs.
Grace Marshall (11 points)
Dakota Adams (11 points) and
Kate Herlihy (10 points) also hit for double figures.
Rowan got it to 50-31 at the half after a three from Holt at the buzzer, but the lead did not dip below six points over the final two quarters. Montclair State would open up an 11-point edge with just under six minutes to play, not before Marshall scored the next four points to climb to a 66-59 score.
The Red Hawks' Nickie Carter led all scorers with 31 points, along with six three-pointers. Teammate Olivia Vero added 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Carter's three after Marshall's four-point streak gave MSU back a 10-point advantage (69-59) with 4:41 remaining. However, Rowan had just two field goals over the final 3:08 of the period.
Next up for the Profs is a road matchup at Rutgers-Newark this Saturday, January 14th with a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
