GLASSBORO, NJ – Two goals in a five-minute span in the second half helped Haverford defeat Rowan, 2-1, in men's soccer action in the Profs' home opener.
Rowan (1-2-1) took the lead at the start of the second half, at 45:23, when a penalty kick was awarded after a foul in the box, and
Chad Yates connected for his second goal of the season.
A number of saves by Haverford keeper Dylan Ioffreda seemed to change the momentum late in the game. The Fords responded, tying the match at 20:23 as Paul-Andre Coulibaly took a short pass from Andrew Fritz in the box and directed it into the left side of the net.
The Profs were awarded another penalty kick at 16:12, but Yates' attempt was stopped by Ioffreda as was the follow-up from
Ryan Barnes. Haverford (2-0-1) went down the field after that save and scored again, with Fritz taking a pass from Andrew Stevens for the winning goal at 74:34.
Rowan held a 14-8 edge in shots while goalkeeper
Tomas Lazicki made four saves.
Rowan heads to Haverford on the weekend to take part in the annual Jimmy Mills Tournament, facing Skidmore on Saturday and Lycoming on Sunday, with both games at noon.
