Chad Yates made his first goal of the year the gamewinner to lift Rowan to a 2-1 win over Southwestern in men's soccer action at Trinity University.
After falling behind just four minutes into the contest, Rowan (1-1) scored the equalizer when Yates carried the ball into the box and fed it to freshman
Ryan Gale. Gale took a shot that was initially stopped by Southwestern keeper Jack Viles but Gale put in the rebound for his first collegiate goal at 17:27.
On a corner kick,
Alex Ferrara gave the ball to
Nick Salazar-Escobar, who sent a short pass to Yates outside the box. The senior co-captain carried it to the top of the box and blasted a shot into the upper right corner to put Rowan ahead for good at 34:31.
Chay Kaplan earned the win in goal in his Rowan debut as he made three saves.
The start of the match was delayed by more than an hour due to lightning strikes in the area.
The Profs return to action tomorrow evening when they take on the host team, 13
th-ranked Trinity.
