JERSEY CITY, NJ – New Jersey City jumped out to a 4-0 first-half lead and never looked back as the Gothic Knights posted a 6-0 win over visiting Rowan in NJAC men's soccer action this afternoon. The loss drops Rowan to 5-4-2 (0-1-1 NJAC).
After an early goal, at 8:19, NJCU (6-1-0; 1-1 NJAC) started a stretch of three goals in four minutes, with two of them by Maximo Vargas. Vargas took a long ball and headed it in at 25:23 and then chipped one over the head of the Profs'
Chay Kaplan at 26:48 to give the home team a 4-0 advantage by halftime.
NJCU held a slight advantage in shots in the first half, 8-6, but the Profs turned up the pressure in the second, outshooting NJCU, 10-3. Kaplan made two saves on the day while Nick Linebaugh made seven for the Gothic Knights.
NJCU finished out the scoring the final three minutes with a pair of goals, including the third goal of the game by Vargas.
This is the first of three consecutive road matches for Rowan, as the Profs will head to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, October 1, and then to Montclair State on October 8.
