Men's Soccer Plays to 2-2 Tie at Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, NJ – Rowan and Rutgers-Newark battled to a 2-2 tie in NJAC men's soccer action, in a match that was rescheduled from Saturday, due to the weather. The deadlock gives the Profs a 5-4-3 record on the year, and an 0-1-2 mark in the conference.

Ryan Cleary scored the game's first goal for Rowan, just 3:55 in, when he took a pass from Alex Ferrara and put it into the upper left corner of the net. It was his first goal at Rowan.

Rutgers-Newark (4-2-3; 2-0-1 NJAC) tied it later in the first half, on a goal by Joe Alba at 24:53.

Gil Ferreira put the Profs ahead, 2-1, in the second half, with his first goal of the year at 65:49. But Rutgers-Newark scored just three minutes later, as Franco Catania sent a shot from the left sideline into the upper right corner of the goal, to force the tie.

Rutgers held a slim 13-11 edge in shots while Rowan's Tomas Lazicki made two saves in goal.

This is the second of three straight road games for the Profs, as they will head to Montclair State on Saturday, October 8.
