SCRANTON, PA -- Rowan defeated RIT, 3-2 but later fell 3-1 to the host Scranton on Saturday at the Electric City Invitational hosted by Scranton.
The Profs had to fight off RIT in the fifth set in the first match of the day as a 14-9 lead turned into a 14-13 score.
Courtney Rhoden ended things with her tenth kill of the game to close it out.
Rhoden was one of three Profs to finish in double-digit kills.
Natalie Ogden posted 14 and
Brianna Newson put down 11.
Jackie Camponelli's six service aces were one short of a tying a personal best while
Brooke Adams registered a double double with 42 assists and 11 digs.
Tied at 1-1, the Profs pulled away late in set #3, 25-23. The team looked to end it in the fourth holding a 21-20 edge, but the Tigers forced a fifth set with a similar 25-23 score. In that fifth set, Rowan used scoring stretches to stay ahead from RIT. Ogden's kill put the team on verge at 14-9 before the Tigers ran off four points.
Against the host Lady Royals, Rowan put together a 39-18-159 (.132) team hitting line, but were outdid by Scranton, who registered a 54-15-170 (.229) attack that included double-figure kills in three of four sets.
Adams notched her second double double on the day, this time going for 32 assists and a career-high 21 digs. Ogden was a kill shy of her own double double, going for 20 digs and nine kills.
Jena Kaul posted a team-high 10 while
Isabel Kirchner had eight and
Sydni Greenwood with seven.
Scranton's Carah Vitkus led all attackers with 17 kills with teammate Caileigh Cox adding 39 assists and 12 digs.
Trailing 2-1, Rowan fought back from a 10-4 deficit to knot things up at 17-17. However, the Lady Royals scored six kills over the next eight points to claim the four-set victory.
The Profs are back in action on Tuesday as the squad travels to Rutgers-Newark for a NJAC matchup.
