BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins scored with 15 minutes remaining as the Blue Jays scored a 1-0 win over Rowan in the season opener for both teams at Homewood Field.
Jonathan Cui headed in the gamewinner over the outstretched arms of Rowan goalkeeper
Tomas Lazicki at 75:35 after collecting the ball on a rebound. The play originated with a long ball sent into the box from the left side, which Lazicki stopped, but it rebounded to Cui.
Rowan had two consecutive chances with under five minutes to go, but back-to-back shots by
Davide Caputo and
Mason Martelloni were stopped by JHU goalkeeper Alex Mogret, who had five saves on the day.
Chad Yates and Caputo took two shots each for the Profs, as the squad held a slim 9-8 advantage in shots. Lazicki made two saves in his Rowan debut in net, including one off a corner early in the second half.
The Profs will remain on the road and head to Trinity University in San Antonio for a pair of games this weekend. Rowan will take on Southwestern on Saturday and 13th-ranked Trinity on Sunday.
