NEW ORLEANS, LA -- The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its Division III All-Academic Athletes and All-Academic Teams which highlights seven Profs as well as the team in the awards. The awards honor student-athletes in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
To be considered for an All-Academic Athlete, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher through the most recently completed semester and meet one of the following athletic criteria: 1. Must have finished the indoor season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 50, but who participated at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible. 2. Must have competed as a member of one of the top 35 relay teams as listed on the indoor descending order list on TFRRS. In addition, any athletes not among the top 35 relay teams, but who participated in the relay at the Indoor or Outdoor National Championships, are eligible.
Individually,
Ian Bain (Mechanical Engineering),
Amara Conte (Accounting),
Rakim Coyle (Marketing),
Kevin Lauer (Elementary Education),
Greg Poloso (Law & Justice),
Jake Riley (Exercise Science), and
Charlie Serrano-Juarez (Economics) all were cited for the work in the classroom, all boasting GPA's over 3.30. For Bain and Conte, this is the second-straight year the organization bestowed the academic honor.
The Profs as a whole earned a team 3.17 GPA and were honored as one of the 150 Division III institutions on the USTFCCCCA All-Academic Team.
Rowan captured NJAC Titles in both the indoor and outdoor seasons this year as well as AARTFC Championships in both seasons. The Profs finished 12th overall in the NCAA Indoor Championships and in a tie for 5th at the Outdoor Championships. Conte and Serrano-Juarez were members of the 4x400 relay champions during the indoor campaign. In the outdoor season, Conte (4x400 relay) and Poloso (Javelin) were named All-American.
