GLASSBORO, NJ – Freshman
Molly Green had four goals to lead a balanced attack as second-seeded Rowan defeated third-seeded Stockton, 18-9, in the semifinals of the NJAC Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Profs advance to the championship game and will travel to top-seeded TCNJ on Saturday, May 7, with a 1 p.m. start.
The victory is the sixth straight for Rowan (10-7) as the Profs will be playing in the conference final for the third time in the last four years that the tournament has been held.
Green also handed out two assists for her six-point game, while
Erin Renshaw had three goals and three assists.
Ashley Lechliter and
Julianna Corson scored three goals apiece,
Shannen Sterner and
Elise Cohan added two each and
Michaela Donnelly chipped in one goal.
The Profs wasted no time, getting on the board just 1:30 into the game, when Corson took a feed from Renshaw. Stockton tied it up, but Rowan scored the next three and would maintain the lead the rest of the game. Renshaw added a goal, assisted by Green, followed by tallies from Lechliter, Corson and
Shannen Sterner as the home team held a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Green had three unassisted goals in the second quarter, and the Profs scored five in a row, as they started to break open the game. Rowan also had goals from Renshaw, Lechliter and Sterner to own an 11-5 advantage at halftime.
The Profs kept rolling after the break, with Renshaw taking a pass from Green just 58 seconds into the quarter. Corson, Green and Cohan netted three consecutive goals, and despite two straight from Stockton in the last five minutes of the quarter, Rowan's lead was up to 15-7.
Lechliter scored in the first minute of the fourth quarter and Rowan got the 10-goal differential, 17-7, at 6:39 on an unassisted tally by Cohan.
Michaela Donnelly added one, with the pass from
Chloe Shea, to finish out the scoring for Rowan. Stockton scored twice in the final two minutes to provide the final score.
During this six-game winning streak, Rowan has outscored its opponents by a combined 117-40.
The winner of Saturday's championship game earns the NJAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
