HOBOKEN, NJ – A strong second half propelled Stevens past Rowan, 12-9, in non-league women's lacrosse action today. The Profs were led by
Elise Cohan, who scored three goals.
Rowan (1-2) also got two goals apiece from
Shannen Sterner and freshman
Molly Green while
Ashley Lechliter had one goal and one assist with
Jamie Cutrera adding a goal.
Rowan held a 7-4 lead at halftime, but Stevens (3-0) came out in the second and scored five straight goals to take a 9-7 lead with over three minutes left in the third quarter.
Lechliter fed Cohan for a fourth-quarter goal, and then scored one of her own to tie the game at 9-9, with 9:02 remaining. But Stevens' Camryn Rogers tallied her fifth and sixth goals of the contest to push the home team ahead, 11-9, with 3:50 to play, before the Ducks got one more to secure the win.
Rowan scored five of the game's first eight goals, with Sterner starting things off at 5:40 of the first quarter. Cohan opened the scoring in the second, and Green tallied both of hers in that quarter. Cutrera, Cohan and Sterner each netted second-quarter goals, but the Profs went scoreless in the third.
Lauren Ferriola had two ground balls and two caused turnovers for Rowan, with
Erin Scioli and
Hannah Lombardo also picking up two ground balls. Goalie
Reilly Shaup made 14 saves on the day.
The Profs return home to host Washington College (MD) on Wednesday, March 9 before embarking on their Spring Break trip to Florida where they will face Rhodes (March 16) and #13 Denison (March 18).
