ST. LEO, FL - The Rowan women's lacrosse team scored the final six goals of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome Rhodes, as the Profs fell, 17-15, in a game played at Saint Leo University.
Erin Renshaw tied her career-high by scoring three goals for the Profs (2-3) with Jamie Cutrera, Elise Cohan and Julianna Corson tallying two apiece.
Rhodes (6-3) scored five straight goals in the third quarter, and took a 15-8 lead. After a Rowan goal from Chloe Shea, Rhodes added three more to build its lead to 17-9. Renshaw scored one in the final two minutes of the third quarter, starting Rowan's six-goal streak.
Ashley Lechlter, who added two assists in the game, scored in the fourth, with Renshaw adding two in a row, to pull Rowan within 17-13. Michaela Donnelly added one more with 40 seconds to play and Shannen Sterner took a pass from Lechliter and scored at :04 to provide the final margin.
The teams played a high-scoring first quarter, with Rhodes holding an 8-4 lead by the end of the period. Cutrera had two goals and an assist, with Molly Green and Cohan adding a goal apiece.
Green and Cohan each scored in the second quarter as the Profs pulled to within 10-6 at halftime.
Corson started the third quarter with two goals for Rowan, to cut the deficit to 10-8, before Rhodes answered with five straight.
Rowan, which received votes in this week's IWLCA National Poll, will be back in action on Friday, March 18 when it faces #19 Denison in Haines City, FL.
