WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Rowan's 4x400 meter relay claimed the national championship, winning the event at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. The Profs' team of
Marquise Young,
Nana Agyemang,
Jah'mere Beasley and
Amara Conte captured the title in a time of 3:16.56.
RESULTS
The foursome won the first heat then watched Washington University win the second heat, but the Bears finished at 3:16.79 for second place which awarded the title to the Profs. This is the second indoor 4x400 relay team to claim a national title with the first coming in 1999 (Julius Kinsler, Greg Arnett, Keith Kreiger, and Rich Dixon).
"We are really proud of our guys for all their performances this season and at the NCAA Championship.The coaching staff is especially proud of the way the guys fought coming from behind to win out of the first heat," added head coach
Dustin Dimit.
Earlier on Saturday, Beasley was in action as he earned his second All-American status of the day placing third in the 200 meters with a third-best career time of 21.67.
Ahmir Johnson, who also competed in the long jump on Friday, took fourth in the triple jump (14.82 meters) also with a third-best career mark as well. For Beasley and Johnson, this is their second All-American honors in indoor.track.
As a team, the Profs totaled 24 points to finish in 12th place. Washington University and Wisconsin-Eau Claire each totaled 35 points to finish as co-champions.
With the conclusion of the indoor season, the Profs now take their talents outside next weekend to kick off the outdoor season at the Washington & Lee Carnival which begins on Friday.
