NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Rowan women's basketball team returned from the holiday and had to face the nation's top-ranked team on the road, falling to #1 and undefeated Christopher Newport, 93-60, at the Freeman Center.

Dakota Adams were the lone Profs in double figures with 10 points apiece
Rowan (7-4) got off to a good start and trailed by just 21-18 at the end of the first quarter after a basket by
Kate Herlihy. Rowan trailed 26-22 early in the second quarter after a basket by Middleton, but CNU (11-0) used a 10-2 run to gain a 36-26 margin. Herlihy and Holt pulled the Profs back within 36-30 before the Captains connected on six consecutive free throws and a jumper from Hannah Keloi to build the lead back to 44-30. A three-pointer by Katy Rader at :28 gave the home team a 47-33 advantage to take into halftime.
After intermission, the Captains didn't let up, opening the second half with a 27-4 run while forcing 10 Rowan turnovers to take a 74-37 lead before the end of the third quarter.
Sabrina Araujo keyed a spurt of nine straight points for the Profs as she hit a three-pointer and two free throws with under seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
The nation's number-one team shot 45 percent from the field and 43 from three-point range, while forcing 39 turnovers by Rowan, although CNU had 28 giveaways of its own. Kaloi and Sondra Fan scored 16 points apiece to lead four Captains in double figures.
The Profs will return home and back to NJAC play in the New Year when they host NJCU on Wednesday, January 4 at 5:30 p.m.
