Weekly NJAC Honors Awarded in Field Hockey, Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming, and Women's Volleyball

PITMAN, NJ -- Rowan's Field Hockey, Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, and Women's Swimming teams were all featured by the New Jersey Athletic Conference in its weekly awards program, with nine student-athletes earning honors.

In field hockey, awards went to Vanessa DiDonato for the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, Abby Hainsworth as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week and Sidney Pavlishin receiving the NJAC Rookie of the Week.

Rowan also swept all three awards in women's soccer. Emma DeMaise notched the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, Calista Burke the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, and Ava Morales the NJAC Rookie of the Week, respectively.

In women's volleyball, Natalie Ogden was selected the NJAC Player of the Week while teammate Jena Kaul earned the NJAC Rookie of the Week.

For women's swimming, freshman Ella Pennington was chosen the NJAC Rookie of the Week.

DiDonato scored four goals in the 6-1 NJAC Semifinal win over Montclair State, marking the most goals in one game by any Prof this season. She also set up the winning goal in the championship game vs. TCNJ, as she was taken down in the circle by a defender, which gave the Profs a penalty stroke that Julia Patrone converted for the eventual gamewinner.

Hainsworth allowed just one goal in the two games of the NJAC Championship to earn the third weekly award of the season. The goalkeeper made one save in the 6-1 win over Montclair State in the semifinals. She held off TCNJ in the final as she made one save as she faced five shots and eight corners to post her fourth shutout of the season.

Pavlishin receives the Rookie of the Week award for the second time this year. She scored Rowan's second goal in the 6-1 win over Montclair State in the NJAC Semifinals, following in a rebound of her own shot six minutes into the game. The freshman helped Rowan apply the offensive pressure in the championship game as the Profs outshot TCNJ, 12-5, to win their second-straight title.

DeMaise had an assist and a goal in the NJAC Championship victory, a 2-1 win at #12 Montclair State last Saturday for a career high four points. Her goal came late in the first half, the first of the year, which stood to be the gamewinner in giving the Profs its fourth conference title and first since the 2016 season.

Burke was equally impressive, as the goalie made a total of 10 saves in the two playoff games last week. The sophomore recorded five saves for her 13th shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over #21 TCNJ in the semifinal. She then made another five stops in the championship game at Montclair State. This season, she is ranked third in all of Division III in save percentage (.927) and third in goals against average (0.23 GAA).

Morales was the hero in the semifinal win over TCNJ as the freshman scored in the 69th minute that gave the Profs a 1-0 win. The score was her second on the season as she has two goals and two assists.

Ogden was on fire in two playoff games last week, as the senior registered double doubles in both contests while posting a 29-13-101 (.158) hitting line for her fourth weekly award this year. Against Montclair State in the 3-1 semifinal win, Ogden posted 11 kills and 18 digs along with two aces. In the final against Kean, she went for a match-high 18 kills and added 11 digs for a 3-1 victory to give the Profs the NJAC Title for the second year in a row and fifth in program history.

Kaul was also a big factor in those two postseason wins as the freshman had double-digit kills in each contest. Her best performance came in the championship game as the rookie, who also claimed the award for the second time this year, totaled 11 kills, six of which came in the decisive fourth set that helped Rowan to the title.

Pennington had three first-place finishes for the third consecutive meet as the Profs scored a 170-92 win over Montclair State on Saturday for the team's first win on the year. The freshman claimed top honors in the 100 backstroke (58.51), the 200 backstroke (2:05.02) and the 200 IM (2:13.35) to earn the award for the second time this season.

The third-ranked and NJAC Champion field hockey team (19-1) has earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Division III Championship and will host second and third-round games on November 12 and 13 here at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. The Profs will take on the winner of the Cabrini-Christopher Newport game at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with Messiah facing the Castleton-Tufts winner at 2 p.m. The winners of those games will play in the third round on Sunday at 1 p.m. and will advance to the national semifinals to be held at Rowan on November 18. The Profs are serving as the host of the NCAA Championship on November 18 and 20.

#23 Women's Soccer (13-0-4) will face Methodist in a first-round matchup of the 2022 NCAA Division III Tournament that will be played at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at 11 a.m. With a win, the Profs would take on the winner of the host Marlins and Puget Sound on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Women's Volleyball (24-6) takes on Cortland in its first-round NCAA Tournament contest on Thursday out at Juniata. Second round play continues on Saturday and third round action is on Sunday.

This week, a total of 14 Rowan student-athletes were honored over six sports, an unprecedented first in conference history for the most in one week.
