GLASSBORO, NJ – Abby Hainsworth, a Rowan University senior, is the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2022 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship, earning the award for the second time.
Hainsworth, majoring in mechanical engineering, currently carries a 4.0 GPA. She was presented with the award during the NCAA Championship Banquet at Rowan, which is serving as the host of this year's championship, starting tomorrow (Nov. 18)
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed. For more information on the Elite 90 award winners, log on to https://www.ncaa.com/elite-90.
It marks the third time that a Rowan student-athlete has won the award at the Field Hockey Championship as Hainsworth received it in 2021 and Casey Wagner was the 2018 recipient.
Hainsworth, is the starting goalie for the #3 Profs, who will take on #3 Middlebury in Friday's NCAA Semifinals at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium at 3 p.m. Fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins will face #8 Williams in the first semifinal at noon.
