AMHERST, MA -- Amherst overtook Rowan midway through the fourth quarter to go on and the Profs a 57-50 setback on Sunday at the Amherst Tip-off Tournament.
Rowan, who battled back from a 12-point halftime deficit, led 47-42 with just over six minutes to play. The Mammoths later tied it a 47-47 and then used a three-pointer from Sylvia Liddle to get ahead. Amherst held the Profs without a field goal the rest of the stanza to help cement the final score.
Eliana Santana had eight points off the bench as the team was just 14-of-58 shooting for the game. The team took advantage of 26 Amherst turnover that led to 20 Rowan points. The squad also held a 42-37 rebound edge, led by six boards from
Danielle McCurdy. McCurdy and
Ayanna Johnson each added a pair of blocked shots.
AnLing Vera led the Mammoths with a game-high 17 points. Teammate Kori Barach added 15 points and nine boards, also a game high.
The Profs will return to action on Saturday, November 19th with a game at Juniata at 2 p.m.
