Yates Nets Hat Trick to Lead Men's Soccer to 4-0 Win Over Rutgers-Camden

Aportela records his first-ever shutout in just his second career start

Highlights

GLASSBORO, NJ – Senior Chad Yates posted the first hat trick of his career to lead Rowan to a 4-0 victory over Rutgers-Camden in men's soccer action. Sophomore Dylan Aportela recorded his first shutout in just his second start as Rowan (6-5-3; 1-2-2) picked up its first NJAC win.

Yates got an early start on his hat trick when the Profs were awarded a penalty kick
two minutes in after Rutgers-Camden (6-7-3; 3-2) committed a hand ball in the box. The senior connected on the kick, making his second of the year.

He then gave Rowan a 2-0 lead at 28:21 with a shot from the top of the box that went into the left side of the net.

Freshman Ryan Barnes got into the act with the first goal of his career, as classmate Armando Santana headed it to him in the box and picked up his first-ever point. Barnes then scored into the lower left corner from less than 15 yards out at 43:27.

Yates finished off the scoring feat in the 80th minute with Santana again setting up the goal, giving Rowan the 4-0 lead. He now has a team-high eight goals and 20 points on the season.

Aportela made four saves on the evening to record his first shutout, while Rowan outshot the Scarlet Raptors, 22-5.

It was the first home game for Rowan since September 24 and the victory ended a four-game winless streak for the Profs in which they went 0-2-2.

Rowan remains at home on Saturday to host Ramapo in an NJAC contest at 7 p.m.
