Volleyball Storms Back To Take Down Stockton, 3-2; Odgen, Adams Notch Double-Doubles

GALLOWAY, N.J. -- Down two sets to none, Rowan roared back to defeat Stockton, 3-2 (21-25, 16-25, 26-24, 29-27, 15-10), on the road Thursday night in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup.

The Profs had to grind out a win in the third set only to fight off match point four times in the fourth to force a final frame. In that close fourth set, the two teams traded leads six times and had the score tied on 16 occasions.

Three players finished in double-figure kills, led by Brianna Newson with a match-high 18. Natalie Ogden put down 15 kills while Cassidy Abdalla kicked in 12, which tied a career high. The team totaled 61 kills, 52 of which were assisted by Brooke Adams. The setter added 11 digs as she and Ogden (15 digs) registered double-doubles. Simone Sparano racked up 22 digs, a team high, with Jackie Camponelli notching a personal-best 17 on the evening.

Stockton led 10-7 in the first set before the Profs put together four-straight points take back the lead. The home team then broke a 13-13 tie where they hung on to go up, 1-0. The Profs could not rally from an early 7-1 Osprey start in the second set. In the third, Rowan saw Stockton tie it up at 24-24 with two-straight points, but back-to-back kills from Ogden kickstarted the rally.

Now tied at 21-21 in the fourth set, the teams each traded 10 points in a row as the Profs looked to stay alive. Locked up at 27-27, Ogden's kill ignited three-straight points capped off with a block from Odgen and Courtney Rhoden to move the game to a fifth set.

The visitors rode the momentum to get out to an 8-1 lead in that final stanza. Stockton threatened and got it to 13-10. Ogden's 15th kill followed by an ace from Adams put the wraps on the comeback win.

Rhoden registered seven blocks (two solo) and six kills.

Charlotte Leon led the Ospreys with 17 kills. Teammate Jaylah Rolle added nine kills and nine blocks.

Rowan returns to action this weekend as they head to Cabrini for a tri-match. The Profs and host Cavaliers square off before a matchup with Hunter College.
