Volleyball Rallies For A 3-2 NJAC Win Over Montclair State

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- Rowan rallied for a big 3-2 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over visiting Montclair State Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-19, 13-25, 19-25, 25-21, and 15-10. After falling behind, 2-1, the Profs found their mojo in the fourth, totaling 14 kills in the frame as part of a surge that forced a fifth and deciding set.

Natalie Ogden and Brianna Newson paced the attack with 15 kills apiece. Isabel Kirchner added eight and Cassidy Abdalla contributed six as the Profs totaled 52.

Five players hit double figures in digs, led by Simone Sparano with 24. Ogden (15 kills/10 digs) and setter Brooke Adams (30 assists/11 digs) recorded double-doubles as Rowan picked up their eighth win on the year. Also on the defensive side were Isabel Kirchner and Courtney Rhoden who each had five blocks as the team tallied 14 on the night.

Carly Waterman went for 13 kills, 16 digs, and four aces for the Red Hawks. Teammate Delaney St. Pierre contributed 36 assists, five aces, and four kills MSU.

Rowan raced out to an 11-3 lead in the first before Montclair pulled within five. The home team kept a safe lead the rest of the way to take the first set. In the second, it was the Red Hawks who jumped out to a sizable advantage, taking 13-5 lead and later a 17-8 scored to force a Rowan timeout. Montclair scored the last five points to even the match at 1-1.

The Profs came up short in trying to erase a 10-point deficit in the third set, using 10-4 spurt to get to 23-18 but could not pull any closer.

After a dominating fourth set, Rowan was able to stretch their lead to 10-6 in the fifth for some breathing room. Rowan would cement the final notching match point on a block from Kirchner and Rhoden.

The team is back in action this Saturday in a tri-match at Cabrini. Rowan takes on the home Cavaliers before battling Hunter College in the second match.
