ST. DAVIDS, PA. – The Rowan Volleyball Team was back in action on Saturday in a tri-match at Eastern. The Profs fell to the host Eagles, 3-0, (25-23, 25-15, 25-17) but rebounded to take down Goucher, 3-0, (25-19, 25-7, 25-11) in the day's second match.
Against Eastern,
Brianna Newson and
Natalie Ogden each put up double-digit kills. Newson put down a match-high 12 while Odgen totaled 10.
The first set featured a flurry of scoring runs from each team that ultimately saw Rowan come up short. Down 7-3 early, the Profs got it to 9-8 and later use a five-point swing to knot things up at 22-22. Eastern scored three of the next four points to go up 1-0. The Eagles got out to a 6-0 advantage in the second to go on take the set, 25-15. In the third set, Rowan got in an early hole that could not find their way out of in the three-set decision.
Brooke Adams totaled 22 assists with
Simone Sparano adding a match-high 11 digs.
Rowan turned it on against Goucher, as the team had just eight attack errors on 138 attempts along with 56 kills. Newson and Ogden were joined by
Isabel Kirchner to help spark the offense as the trio combined for 37 kills. Defensively, it was a block party as a total of seven players recorded a block assist.
Ogden added 14 digs for her fourth double-double on the season.
Rowan returns to the court on Tuesday as Montclair State visits in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup here at Esby Gymnasium starting at 7 p.m.
