Football Announces 2021 Schedule with Five Home Games; Profs Return to the Field on September 4

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan football schedule for 2021 is set and will mark the Profs' return to the field for the first time since November 2019, as last season was canceled due to the pandemic. This year's slate features five home games at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.

SCHEDULE

The Profs open the year on Saturday, September 4, on Labor Day weekend, against traditional rival Widener and will mark the annual "Saturday Night Lights" game with a start time of 6 p.m.

Rowan has added a new non-conference foe to the schedule, as it will host Springfield College on Saturday, September 11, in a noon game, which will mark the first-ever meeting between the teams.

Following an open date, the Profs return to action on the road with another new non-conference opponent, and travel to Salve Regina in Newport, RI, also for a first-time meeting.

"The players and coaches are excited to get back to playing football games in the fall. Springfield was added to the schedule because of the uncertainty of traveling to Linfield. Also, the late loss of Wesley (acquired by Delaware State University) has created many challenges for our conference members, but luckily, we were able to add Salve Regina to the schedule," said head coach Jay Accorsi, who will be entering his 19th season with the Profs. "Hobart was not able to complete our two-year contract so that currently leaves us with only nine games but we are actively pursuing a 10th game to add to the schedule."

As of now, October 2 is also an open date on the schedule but the Profs are set to open the NJAC season on October 9 at Kean, with a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Rowan returns home for two consecutive weeks and will take on 2020 NJAC South champion Salisbury on October 16 at 1 p.m.

Homecoming Weekend returns on Saturday October 23 when the Profs will host William Paterson and welcome back Rowan. That game will serve as the precursor to a special weekend as the Rowan University/Glassboro State Athletic Hall of Fame will induct the Class of 2021 on Sunday, October 24, after the event had been postponed for a year due to the pandemic.

"Homecoming always draws a great crowd and this year it will be even more special when former coach John Bunting is honored with his induction into the Hall of Fame. We're looking forward to seeing many of our former players join us for what should be a great weekend for Rowan football," said Accorsi.

The Profs will visit 2020 NJAC North Champion Montclair State on October 30 for a 1 p.m. contest and then host "Senior Day", the final home game of the year, on November 6 against Christopher Newport at 1 p.m.

The regular season concludes on Saturday, November 13 at 1 p.m. at TCNJ, which is the last team Rowan played in the 2019 finale, as the Profs rallied for a 24-20 win.

Rowan returns seven starters on offense and five on defense from the squad that won three of its final four games to finish with a 4-3 conference record in 2019. Among the returning players leading the way are tri-captains QB Mike Husni, LB Tim Hutchison and WR John Maldonado.
