Women's Basketball Holds Off Kean, 53-45; Mallard Nets Team-High 20 points in the Win

GLASSBORO, NJ -- Rowan reclaimed its lead late in the contest to hold off Kean, 53-45, Saturday afternoon in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup.

The Profs held a 12-point advantage early in the fourth quarter but the Cougars took a 45-44 lead with 1:27 to play courtesy of a 15-2 run. Two big makes at the charity stripe from Kristina Johnso on the ensuing possession put Rowan back on top for good. Later, key free throws from Dakota Adams and Savanna Holt helped give some breathing room for the home team as the Profs won their second-straight conference game.

Holt netted 10 of her 12 points in that final quarter. Nicole Mallard led all scorers with 20 points and added a team-best nine rebounds.

Shannon McCoy paced the Cougars with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Scoring was hard to come by in the first quarter as Kean used a 6-0 run to end the frame to lead, 12-6. The Profs put together a 11-for-13 effort at the free throw line in the second to outscore the visitors, 19-9, and more importantly take s 25-20 edge into the half.

Mallard's jumper capped a 12-4 run to start the third, giving Rowan its first double-digit lead of the day (37-25).

Kean used a trio of three-pointers in that scoring surge where they took the lead on a bucket from Kayla Anderson with 1:27 on the clock. With the Cougars already in the penalty, the Profs went 9-of-10 at the free-throw line down the stretch to help salt the victory.

NJAC play continues on Wednesday as Rowan heads to Rutgers-Camden for a conference duel starting at 6 p.m.
