Five Profs Nab Philadelphia Inquirer Football Academic All-Area Team Honors

PHILADELPHIA -- Rowan was well represented on the Philadelphia Inquirer PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Football Team as a total of five Profs were chosen. The teams are nominated and voted on by the sports information offices of 30 colleges and universities in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area.  In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must be in at least their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  
 
AJ Akins, Mike Husni, John Maldonado, Mike Mascioli, and Robert Stashek were among 24 student-athletes honored.
 
Akins, was chosen to the D3Football All-Region 2 Second Team while receiving All-NJAC First Team honors. The senior defensive end led the NJAC in sacks with 9.5 and ranked third in both tackles per game (9.1) and tackles for loss per game (1.4). The senior compiled a career-high 82 tackles on the season with 13 tackles for loss while he forced two fumbles.
 
A Law and Justice major, Akins received 2020-21 NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention and is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete. In 2019, he was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
 
Husni was named to the 2021 All-NJAC Second Team Offense after totaling 129 completions for 1,539 yards and 12 touchdowns, while completing 65% of his passes. He also ranked second in the league in passing efficiency (145.8) and third in total offense (219.8 yds/game).
 
A Sociology major and team co-captain, Husni is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete and a 2020-21 NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention.

Maldonado was named to the NJAC All-Conference First Team as he put together his best season as a Prof catching 64 passes for 873 yards and seven touchdowns. The junior wide receiver led the conference in receptions, was fifth in touchdowns and ranked seventh in scoring with 4.9 points per game. He scored a touchdown in all but two games and had five games in which he accounted for 100-plus yards.
 
A Finance major, Maldonado is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete of Distinction and earned 2020-21 NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention. The Profs' co-captain this year, he was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society in 2020.
 
Mascioli was chosen to the 2021 All-NJAC Second Team on defense after leading the NJAC in tackles with 93 (making a team-high 44 solo stops) along with three three tackles for loss and an interception. He was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week (10/24) after posting a season-high 12 tackles and making an interception in the Profs' win over William Paterson
 
An Accounting major, Mascioli is a Rowan Scholar-Athlete.
 
Stashek earned a 2021 All-NJAC Second Team spot after anchoring an offensive line that saw Rowan lead the NJAC in the least sacks against (9 for 46 yards). That line helped Rowan gain 3,052 yards of total offense (1,816 rushing), the third best number in the NJAC. The Profs also ranked second in Red Zone Offense at 81.3 percent.
 
He is a Health & Physical Education major as well as a Rowan Scholar-Athlete of Distinction.
