SALISBURY, MD. -- A fourth-quarter comeback came up just short as Rowan fell, 79-74, at Salisbury Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
Grace Marshall (21 points) was one of four Profs in double figures but the Sea Gulls fended off a late Rowan rally.
Nicole Mallard kicked in 15 points and
Kristina Johnson added 11.
Eliana Santana put together her fourth career double double, totaling 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Kayle Otlowski paced the Sea Gulls with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Teammate Kylie Webb (18 points), Lauren Fortescue (17 points) and Abby Wilkinson (12 points) also registered double digits.
Salisbury took a 16-15 lead after the first quarter, and would build a 32-19 lead in the second. The Profs carved the deficit down to six at the half as a late three-pointer from
Sam Rinaldi made it a 44-38 contest at the break. The Sea Gulls kept a seven-point edge as the teams went into the final quarter.
Down by as much as 68-54 early in the fourth, Rowan looked to turn the tide in their favor. Marshall's three-point play kickstarted a 15-2 run to get it to a one-point game (70-69) with 4:07 to play.
Two free throws from Webb with 17 seconds gave the home team a 77-71 advantage. Santana hit a key triple on the next possession to get it to a three-point game. Webb was fouled again and sent to the foul line with eight ticks, looking to ice the contest, but both her attempts were no good. Her second miss, however, went out of bounds last touched by the Profs off a scramble to give Salisbury possession. Fortescue then hit both of her free throws with five seconds to account for the final score.
Rowan returns home to square off with Stockton in a New Jersey Athletic Conference clash this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
