NORTHAMPTON, MA -- Rowan fell to #7 Tufts, 73-53, the season opener on Saturday at the Tyler Tip Off hosted by Smith.

The Profs trailed by just five at the half but the Jumbos outscored Rowan 20-8 in the third quarter to open up a sizable advantage.

Savanna Holt netted 13 points off the bench to lead Rowan with Grace Marshall also hitting double figures with 11.

For Tufts, Molly Ryan scored a game-high 33 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Teammate Maggie Russel added 11 points and 17 rebounds.

Rowan shot 40% in both quarters of the first half, and stayed within arm's reach of the Jumbos. RU erased a 10-point first-quarter deficit to climb within one (20-19) early in the second. Tufts held a 36-31 lead the break.

In the third, the Profs were guilty of nine turnovers that led to 16 points for Tufts and were just 3-of-13 shooting. The Jumbos took a 56-39 lead into the fourth to put the contest out of reach.

The team will get right back at it tomorrow as they face the host Pioneers at 4 p.m.
