Volleyball sweeps Rutgers-Newark, 3-0; Abdalla Racks Up 12 Kills in the Win

Win streak reaches nine

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- Rowan took down Rutgers-Newark in three sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) to notch their ninth-straight victory Tuesday night at Esbjornson Gymnasium in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup.

The game featured a "Profs Go Pink" theme in which both teams included pink in their attire on the evening in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event aims to raise awareness and funds for the Unite for HER organization and its mission of enriching the health and well-being of those diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancers. Special pink Rowan Volleyball t-shirts were sold as a fundraiser for the cause as well.

The match had the Profs posting a 43-15-98 hitting line as the team hit over .250 for the third game in a row. Nine different Profs recorded a kill led by Cassidy Abdalla who tied her own career best with a match-high 12 kills. The senior added two digs, and ace, and a solo block. Setter Brooke Adams put together 34 assists, seven digs, and three aces.

For the Scarlet Raiders, Sharon Starling led the visitors with nine kills with teammate Jaclyn Shrubsall registering 17 assists and four digs.

Rowan roared out to an 8-1 lead in the first set and withstood a late Rutgers-Newark rally to go up, 1-0. In the second set, the Profs got their footing back after an early deficit to go on a 14-4 run. The squad closed out the 25-17 win with four-straight points. Things were really clicking in the third as a 10-2 start paved the way for the team to improve to 4-0 in NJAC play.

The team returns to action a week from tonight as the Profs head to New Jersey City for a conference matchup.
