UNION, NJ -- Behind a career-high 24 kills from
Natalie Ogden, Rowan was able to complete a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play with an exciting 3-2 win (25-14, 26-28, 18-25, 25-16, and 18-16) at Kean Wednesday evening.
The Profs trailed 2 sets to 1, winning the fourth and would have to earn every point in the deciding fifth as the teams battled through five lead changes and 10 ties.
Ogden was one of three Profs in double-figure kills and one of six in double-digit digs.
Simone Sparano totaled 24 digs with Ogden adding 18. In the kill department,
Brianna Newson kicked in 16 and
Isabel Kirchner with 10.
With 49 assists and 14 digs, setter
Brooke Adams joined Ogden (24 kills/18 digs) and Newson (16 kills/10 digs) in registering double-doubles for the Profs.
Ashley Smith paced the Cougars with 17 kills with teammate Anne Beckemeyer chipping in 11 kills and a match-high five blocks.
After notching 13 kills in the first-set victory, Rowan saw Kean total 19 in the second to outlast the visitors to tie things up at 1-1. The Cougars had just one hitting error in the third to put the Profs on the ropes in going ahead, 2-1.
Ogden put down five kills in the fourth to help Rowan force a fifth set where her and Newson combined for 11 of the teams 13 enders in the final frame. The match came to an end when Ogden put down her sixth of the set en route to the 3-2 win.
The team returns to action on the road at Arcadia on Friday before a home tri-match here on Saturday. Rowan battles Brooklyn starting at 11 a.m. then will face off with Mt. St. Mary at 3 p.m. In between, the Bulldogs and Knights butt heads at 1 p.m.
