GLASSBORO, NJ – Rowan's comeback attempt fell short as the Profs were defeated by #5 Montclair State, 2-1, in an NJAC men's soccer match on Homecoming and "Senior Night".
Montclair State (15-1-1; 8-0 NJAC) broke a scoreless tie as Janbi Kaghado scored one off a short cross with 34:36 remaining. Kaghado tallied another just eight minutes later to give the Red Hawks a 2-0 lead.
Matias Carrion pulled the Profs (9-3-1; 4-3-1 NJAC) within a goal as he one-touched a short cross sent by
Chad Yates with 11:27 remaining in the contest.
The Profs kept up the pressure the rest of the way, but could not convert the tying goal.
Rowan played a man down for most of the match after
Gil Ferreira was sent off with a second yellow card 22 minutes into the first half. But the Profs managed 11 shots and the defense kept Montclair State off the board until the second half.
At halftime of the game, Rowan's seniors –
Junior Miranda,
Aaron Robertson and
James Weinberg – were honored in the final regular-season contest. As part of Homecoming, Rowan also welcomed back members of the 1981 NCAA Championship Team which celebrates its 40th anniversary.
The Profs will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they head to Rutgers-Camden.
