READING, PA. -- Rowan scored a pair of wins at a tri-match at Penn State-Berks on Saturday, extending its win streak to eight matches. The Profs knocked off Lycoming, 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-15), in the day's first match, then posted a 3-1 decision (25-15, 27-29, 25-16, 25-17) over the host Lions.
Against Lycoming, the Profs totaled a hitting line of 38-10-104 (.269) with
Brianna Newson leading all attackers with 14 kills, a match high.
Natalie Ogden kicked in 10 kills and 12 digs. Rowan had 12 kills and zero hitting errors in the first set, cruising to a 25-11 win. In the second, the team fought through a late Warrior run, using a 5-1 run to close out a 25-20 score. The third set saw the Profs jump out to a 6-1 lead and later use an 8-2 spurt to lock up the win.
In the match with Penn State-Berks, the team had three players in double-figure kills, led by Ogden with 19. Newson added 14 while
Cassidy Abdalla tied a career-high with 12. As a team, the Profs put together a .296 hitting line (60-12-148). Newson also added a personal-best four blocks, with two solo. Ogden registered her ninth double-double as she racked up 11 digs. Setter
Brooke Adams doled out 51 assists along with eight digs, three aces, and a pair of kills.
After taking the first set, Rowan looked to stave off the Lions, rallying from a 24-22 deficit to get it to 24-24. After the teams traded points, PSU-Berks was able to get the 29-27 win to tie it up at a set apiece.
The third set saw Rowan lead from start to finish as well as the fourth to help stretch their winning streak.
The team gets back on the floor on Tuesday when they take on Rutgers-Newark as part of the "Profs Go Pink" event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to raise awareness and funds for the Unite for HER foundation.
