Men's Soccer Turns in a 2-0 Shutout Victory Over NJCU; Weinberg Collects Fourth Clean Sheet

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- A goal in each half, plus a shutout from keeper James Weinberg, helped propel Rowan men's soccer to a 2-0 victory over New Jersey City in an NJAC matchup Saturday evening. The Profs are now 8-1 and 3-1 in the NJAC.

Rowan's defense has now held its NJAC opponents scoreless in seven of eight halves played thus far in conference play.

Anthony Arena netted a tally in the 37th minute and Chad Yates added an insurance goal in the 87th minute while Weinberg made three stops in net to notch his fourth clean sheet on the year.

The Profs fired off 23 shots compared to the Gothic Knights' eight and held an 8-1 corner kick edge.

After two near misses in the first half, Arena put in his first career goal as he found space at the top of the box and let one fly to get the home team on the board. Aaron Robertson picked up the assist.

It became 2-0 as Jay Vandermark fed a nice touch pass to a charging Yates, splitting two defenders to register his second tally of the year and more importantly a two-goal edge.

Weinberg saw five shots in the second half, where he made his three stops. NJCU keeper Nick Linebaugh etched 10 stops on the scoresheet for the visitors.

The team returns to action on Saturday, October 9 when it visits William Paterson.
