GAME NOTES
The Series
Salisbury has won three straight against the Profs, with the last Rowan victory coming on October 8, 2016 in a 34-30 home win. The last time the two teams met, the Sea Gulls posted a 38-7 decision back in October 19, 2019, rushing for 336 yards in the win.
About the Profs
Rowan is looking to get into the win column for the first time after it opened the year with a pair of home losses, to Widener (27-22) and Springfield (46-24), and then one on the road to Salve Regina (50-35). Last week, the Profs suffered a 24-17 loss at Kean on a go-ahead touchdown in the final minute of the game.
About Salisbury
The 13th-ranked Sea Gulls return to action after a bye last week. SU picked up a 27-7 win over Montclair State in its NJAC opener on October 2.
Profs vs. the Polls
Salisbury is the first ranked team played by the Profs this season. Rowan faced a challenging schedule in 2019 with three games against Top 25 teams (#12 Salisbury, #12 Linfield, #11 Wesley). Rowan owns a 4-7 record against ranked teams in the past five seasons, with the last victory coming against #8 Wesley, 28-27, on October 20, 2018.
Last Time Out
Kean scored with 50 seconds left to play and Rowan had a last-second chance to tie the game, but the Cougars held on for a 24-17 win in an NJAC matchup. The Profs gave it a late push, driving to the Kean 22-yard line, but a last-ditch pass into the end zone as the clock expired gave the home team the victory. The teams were tied at halftime, 17-17, and kept each other scoreless through the second half until Kean's late score. Rowan gained 206 yards on the ground to just 88 for Kean and had 427 yards of total offense.
Bright Spots
At Kean,
Mike Husni was 25-of-32 for 237 yards and two scores (one rushing) while adding 78 yards on the ground.
John Maldonado grabbed a career-high 13 receptions, totaling 134 yards and a touchdown.
CJ Barrett had personal bests of 10 catches for 90 yards. On defense,
Eric Matos and
Mike Mascioli led the Profs with seven tackles apiece.
Kickin' It
Jake Hurler is 3-for-3 on field goals attempts this season and has converted 11-of-13 PATs. His longest field goal of the year is from 38 yards against Widener.
Looking Ahead
Rowan will remain home to square off with William Paterson on Homecoming, October 23 and then travel to Montclair State on October 30.
