NEWARK, NJ –
Jerry Price had 23 points and scored 12 of Rowan's final 15 points, to lead the Profs to a 63-59 win over Rutgers-Newark in NJAC action tonight at the Golden Dome. The win is Rowan's fourth straight and fifth in the last six games.
Trailing 49-48 with 5:55 to play, Price scored five straight to give Rowan (13-11; 9-8 NJAC) a 53-49 lead with 4:44 to play. After Rutgers-Newark (14-10; 9-7) took a 56-53 lead with five points from Chase Barneys, Price connected on a three-pointer to tie the score. Barneys and Price again traded baskets but the Profs' senior gave Rowan the lead for good with a layup at :54.
Maliq Sanders and
Matt Green then sealed the win combining for three free throws in the final 29 seconds.
Price had 23 points and five rebounds while
Diante Bah posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Green chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
Rowan rallied from a 20-9 deficit in the first half going on a 15-8 run to pull within 30-24 at halftime.
The Profs took their first lead of the second half, 40-39, on a dunk by
Matt Green at 11:02. The teams traded leads the rest of the way, with neither leading by more than four points until Price put Rowan ahead for good.
Neither team shot well from outside the arc, with both hitting just 20 percent of their three-point attempts. Rowan connected on 25-of-35 from the foul line in the win.
Rowan closes out the regular season on Wednesday, February 19 at home against Kean.
